ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- St. Louis Police are investigating the alleged armed robbery and attack that left one woman injured.
The incident is said to have occurred near the 1700 block of 8th Street, Sunday night. Police said two women were walking along 8th street around 9 p.m. when a man robbed them at gunpoint. The two women initially refused to give-up their belongings. The robber then allegedly fired a shot toward the ground. Police say a shell casing was found at the scene.
One of the victims was taken to the ground by the man and robbed of her cell phone and purse. She suffered a bloody nose and is experiencing head pain.
After the attack, the women ran to nearby Franklin’s Pub.
“They were extremely upset that something had gone pretty wrong and obviously they feared for their life at the time,” said Elizabeth Hamilton, bartender at Franklin’s Pub. “The girl said that when she wasn't willing to give up her purse, he kind of [dragged] her, so I'm guessing that is where the injury came from.”
Overall, crime in Soulard is down in 2014 compared to 2013, but many bar owners told News 4 that they are noticing more serious crimes.
“We want people to feel safe here and not have to worry about that type of thing,” said Hamilton.
Police do not have a good description of the suspect but are actively investigating the incident.
