VANDALIA, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Police said three siblings died Thursday night and their mother died Friday when the van they were traveling in was struck by a train near the route of a Halloween parade Thursday night in Vandalia, Illinois.
According to authorities, the van was one block away from the parade route around 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of Sixth and Main Streets when it was hit by a train.
Authorities say 10-year-old Abby Wisnasky, her 13-year-old brother, Drake Wisnasky, and 18-year-old stepsister, Alyssa Sewell, were killed in the crash. Their mother, 35-year-old Crystal Anna, was pronounced dead Friday afternoon.
A 9-year-old boy was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital following the accident.
The van was not part of the parade. The parade was scheduled to start around 7:00 p.m.
Authorities do not know what led to the crash.
