San Francisco Giants World Series win marred by violence; 2 shot, 1 stabbed

(CNN) -- A night of triumph for San Francisco baseball fans was marred by shootings, fires and arrests.

Police said at least two people were shot and one more stabbed in San Francisco’s Mission District amid celebrations for the Giants’ victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night.

Both shooting victims are expected to survive.

Large crowds filled the streets, with occasional bonfires set.

The ruckus on the streets got so rowdy that Muni, the city’s public transit system, was temporarily suspended due to safety concerns and blocked traffic, CNN affiliate KRON said. Some Muni buses were damaged.

Crowds hurled bottles and firecrackers at officers trying to disperse crowds and help firefighters extinguish bonfires, the Police Department said. Several officers suffered minor injuries.

Arrest figures will be available later Thursday, police said.
