ATLANTA (CBS46) -Medical examiners are trying to determine the gender and approximate age of a set of human remains found Tuesday in northwest Atlanta.
Officers responded to a home on Johns Street in the English Avenue neighborhood at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. A man told them his dog showed up chewing on what appeared to be human remains.
An investigator from the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office arrived on the scene and determined that it was a human bone.
“The medical examiner is saying it looks like from the lower extremity,” said Lt. Charles Hampton, the homicide commander of the Atlanta Police Department. “It could be a femur. Could be a tibia. Right now, I’m not sure which one.”
Police sent cadaver dogs into the area. At about 3:45 p.m., the dogs located more human remains in the area that appear to belong to the same person.
“What we’ll do is check our missing person report, to see if we have anyone missing,” said Hampton. “We’re going to need more information as far as if it’s a male or female.”
