(HockeyStL) – David Backes left the ice during the first period of the St. Louis Blues game against the Dallas Stars Tuesday night with an apparent head injury.

The Blues captain was checked by Stars defenseman Trevor Daley in the offensive zone. As Backes fell to the ground his head hit the ice hard. He skated off the ice and eventually went into the locker room. He did not return for the remainder of the game.

The Blues announced via Twitter that Backes was out due to an upper body injury and would not return to the game. No other information was released.

Backes did suffered a big hit to the head from Brent Seabrook in last year’s playoffs against Chicago.
