ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Police say a Domino’s Pizza delivery driver was set up and robbed by three suspects in the Gate District near Lafayette Square, stealing his money and pizzas.
“There is a strong possibility we will be able to find who did this,” said 6th Ward Alderman Christine Ingrassia. Ingrassia says there has been an increase in crime in the Gate District. Statistics show total crime was up 60% in September of this year compared to September in 2013. She also says the problem streets in the area are the 2600 block of Rutger, Hickory, and Caroline.
Police say a violent armed robbery happened on Lafayette Avenue near Jefferson on Thursday night resulting in an 18-year-old shot in the hand and taken to a local hospital.
“We definitely need more police presence. I do not see police patrolling this area nearly as much as they need to,” Ingrassia said. She is looking into ways to get more patrols in the area, but says “It’s not something the Chief is willing to discuss at this point. I think it’s getting to the point where we are close to having that conversation. But of course, funding is always an issue.”
