JEFFERSON COUNTY- The Jefferson County Sherrif's Office has arrested a 21-year-old Bonne Terre man who allegedly stole $100 from a fundraising raffle.

According to Capt. Ralph Brown, the raffle was held Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Knights of Colombus Hall in De Soto.

Brown said the suspect was working at the raffle booth and stole five $20 bills from the proceeds around 8:30 pm.

The raffle was for a gun and proceeds were to benefit a former corrections officer. Brown would not identify the former corrections officer, but would say that the former officer is sick.

The day after the raffle, witnesses provided information that helped the Sheriff's Office identify the Bonne Terre man and he was located at the Melba Theatre in De Soto and taken into custody.

Deputies recovered $80 from the man, according to Brown.

The suspect allegedly admitted to stealing $60 from the raffle proceeds, and was booked and released pending the application for warrants. The Sheriff's Office will seek misdemeanor stealing charges against the suspect.
