ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A crime trend sweeping through the St. Louis area has targeted several out-of-towners, including a touring band who left with a bad experience of the city.
The band Spose was touring through St. Louis when they reported their tour bus was robbed outside Pappy’s Smokehouse as they were dining.
“I walk out, and I’m feeling great. It just quickly turned to gut-wrenching,” said band member Ryan Spose.
The necessary equipment needed to put on a performance were stolen including microphones, cameras and beat boxes—totaling nearly $30,000.
“It’s a sophisticated operation. To rob three vans in broad daylight for tens of thousands of dollars of equipment in 20 minutes is highly professional,” added Spose.
Spose said he heard rumors about touring bands’ buses being ransacked, but he never thought it would happen to him.
“St. Louis is the only city where anybody ever warned us, ‘Watch out for your van. There’s a big series of robberies,’” said Spose.
Police said a dark Pontiac Grand AM was seen leaving the scene. While Spose had a bad experience in St. Louis, he is hopeful that surveillance from the restaurant leads to the suspects.
