GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Children onboard a Granite City school bus passed by a man who allegedly exposed himself on the bus route.

Investigators said the man exposed himself twice, and the same boy on the bus saw him in both instances. Family members of the suspect insist that the incident is a misunderstanding.

Nicholas Patrick, 33, is accused of exposing himself to a bus full of small children. But the mother of Patrick’s daughter believes another man is responsible.

“There’s a bigger guy out here and he starts running. And that’s right when school got out and everything. So I’m thinking that’s probably the guy that did it,” she said.

Both incidents which occurred on separate occasions took place in front of a home on Ohio Avenue. The bus was en route to Prather Elementary School nearby. Court documents state that a 10-year-old boy saw the man expose himself and subsequently told his bus driver of the incident.

“I been trying to get ahold of detectives for the last week or two to tell them that I’m a witness. He did not do that,” said the mother of Patrick’s daughter.

Due to safety concerns, police said the bus has changed its route.

Patrick has been charged with child exploitation and is being held on a $30,000 bond.
