(KMOV) -- The death of 6-year-old Lyvia Roach of Pontoon Beach has been ruled an accident.
In April 2010, Roach was heading home from a friend's house in Pontoon Beach when a truck backed out of a driveway and hit her.
The driver says she didn't realize she hit the girl. She returned to the scene once she heard what happened. Roach died of apparent head injuries suffered in the accident.
The girl was transported to the emergency room of a Granite City hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Roach was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The Madison County coroner's office released a statement in April afternoon saying the head injury was consistent with vehicle contact and did not appear to be the result of a fall.
Charges were not filed against the driver who struck and killed Roach.
