The economic hard times just keep rolling. Unfortunately.
The Riverview Gardens School District is now cutting about a quarter of its teaching staff. That's 120 teachers. The district had to make the announcement now because the law requires that teachers be notified by April 15th and told whether they will have a job for the next academic year.
The district says it will save nearly $4 million dollars with these cuts. We've been reporting on one school district after another on the Illinois side of the river that have had to lay off teachers. The school district in Bethalto took a simliar measure a couple weeks ago. The non-tenured teachers were let go. Add Riverview to that list of districts that's had to make drastic cuts.
