(KMOV) -- Citizens resisting arrest in St. Louis County may soon face the stun of a taser gun.
By the end of April, nearly 600 St. Louis County police officers will carry the electronic devices.
Since the department first issued them to a limited number of officers six years ago, Chief Tim Fitch says injuries to officers decreased by 36 percent.
Police will only use the tasers in specific circumstances.
Officers are required to complete six hours of training before carrying the tasers.
