MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (AP) -- A former basketball player at Southern Illinois is on a year and a half of probation after having pleaded guilty to a battery count.
Twenty-year-old Ryan Hare entered the plea Wednesday in Jackson County and was fined $750 and ordered to do 75 hours of community service. Prosecutors dropped a related trespassing charge.
Hare was arrested and charged last September after a disturbance involving an acquaintence, who was treated at a hospital.
Hare was kicked off the Saluki team the next month.
Hare says he plans to play at Southeastern Community College in Burlington, Iowa.
