How would you like to name Willie Wonka's famous top hat or Charlie's golden ticket?
You can -- this weekend -- at Opera Theatre St. Louis. The world premiere of Golden Ticket is debuting at the theatre this summer. This weekend, the theatre is holding a new fundraising event that allows you to buy local naming rights to costumes, props and sets for each of its four summer productions.
Guests can also bid for a walk-on role or seat in the orchestra pit during a performance. And, you can also bid to name fashion icon Issac Mizrahi's designs. He's costuming the show A Little Night Music.
"These costumes cost anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000 and up to produce, because we produce them all here, hand-labored in St. Louis, so you can underwrite a single costume for A Little Night Music designed by Issac Mizrahi," Opera Theatre St. Louis General Director Timothy O'Leary says. "You don't get to keep the costume; we keep the costume, but you get to watch the production and know that 'I made the costume possible,'"
The "Bright Lights, Naming Rights" fundraiser is this Saturday night from 6:30 to 9:30 at the Sally S. Levy Opera Center in Webster Groves.
Sponsored by the Opera Theatre Guild, proceeds will benefit the company's 2010 season productions. Tickets range in price from $75 to $1,000. For information and tickets, call (314) 963-4223, or email firstname.lastname@example.org <mailto:email@example.com.
