Your Stories: $700 dollar utility bills upset Sullivan residents

Several people who live in Sullivan, Missouri contacted News 4 on Monday to ask for help.  The residents believe that the city is overcharging them for their utilities.  In Sullivan, the city is in charge of billing for utilities.  The bundle package it offers covers water, electric, sewer and trash pickup.  One viewer said her bill is $762 dollars; others said their bills for the month of February were anywhere from $500-750.

Mayor J.T. Hardy said the city is looking at two main issues: rates and usage.  Hardy says initially, it looks like several residents had higher than average usage rates during February.  Regardless, Hardy suggests that his team in city hall will work to get to the bottom of the problem.

One concerned citizen created a facebook group to protest the rates.  As of this afternoon she had 468 friends.

Several residents said they will attend the Sullivan City Hall meeting tomorrow to voice their concern to both the mayor and Board of Aldermen.
