Former Cards exec Fred Kuhlmann dies at 93

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Former St. Louis Cardinals president and chief executive officer Fred Kuhlmann has died.

The team announced Kuhlmann's death in a news release on Saturday. He was 93.

Kuhlmann worked for the Cardinals for more than a decade in several executive capacities, joining the organization in 1984 and experiencing World Series appearances in 1985 and 1987.

Before working in baseball, the lifelong St. Louis resident was a lawyer and then an executive with the Anheuser-Busch company.
