Collection drive inspired by injured O'Fallon soldier

(KMOV) -- A man from O'Fallon, Illinois recently lost his leg after a roadside bombing in Iraq. News 4 has video from the helmet camera of a soldier who was near the attack.

After the bombing in 2008, the injured soldier, Charles Shaffer, was flown to Walter Reed Army Medical Center for treatment. He is still living in Washington so he can continue rehab and physical therapy.

Charles' father, Chip, is in O'Fallon trying to make a difference in other soldiers lives. He is hosting a collection drive on Sunday, April 4, 2010, to gather the supplies he needs to fill more backpacks for troops. It's happening from noon until 5 p.m. at the VFW Hall in O'Fallon Illinois. For a list of items to donate, click here and here.
