INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) -- Four people have been charged with killing a retired police records clerk after going to the wrong Independence house intending to rob a drug dealer.
Sixty-nine-year-old Beverly Crowl was found dead March 19 in her home.
Jackson County prosecutor James Kanatzar (kuh-NAT'-ser) announced charges Friday against 23-year-old Nicholas Krejci (KRAY'-chee), 25-year-old Anthony Standifer, 32-year-old Melissa Farris-Visnich and 26-year-old Darrin Jefferson.
The four Kansas City residents are charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. All were in custody following Jefferson's arrest Friday afternoon in Kansas City, Kan. Their bonds were set at $1 million cash.
Kanatzar called it a "horrific crime" in which the suspects "brutally murdered an innocent senior citizen."
