Missouri nurse, two others sentenced for dog fights

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A 49-year-old northwest Missouri nurse who hosted dog fights at his farm has been sentenced to 14 months in federal prison.

Cris E. Bottcher of Gilman City pleaded guilty in October to participating in a dogfighting ring and hosting fights at his home. He and two others involved in the conspiracy were sentenced in U.S. District Court in Kansas City on Friday.

Kevin Tasler of Jefferson, Iowa, was sentenced to three years' probation and 100 hours of community service. Ryan Tasler of Jefferson, Iowa, was sentenced to two years' probation and 50 hours of community service.

The two Iowa men had pleaded guilty to conspiracy.

The men were among eight people from Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska charged in the dogfighting ring.
