St. Louis mother fighting to keep frozen embryos she adopted

(KMOV)-- A St. Louis mother is fighting for the right to keep two frozen embryos she adopted.
Kirkwood mom, Jen McLaughlin, told News 4 that she and her husband adopted four frozen embryos from a California couple. Jen gave birth to twin baby girls two months ago and she planned to have the other two embryos implanted.
But today, Jen told News 4 she learned she has only a week until the biological mother would like to give the embryos to another couple.
Jen and her husband signed an adoption contract with the biological family, but it only lasted one year from the date of the original implantation. Jen claims she was verbally promised all four embryos and never had any reason to believe the biological mother would want them back.
The contract between the McLaughlins and the donor family expires April 9. The couple would have transfer the embryos within a little more than a week.
Jen and her husband have hired an attorney to stop the process. Jen told News 4 she feels a strong connection to the two embryos since they are the biological siblings of her two infant daughters.
