The Parents as Teachers program started here in Missouri. The program sends trained workers into homes to help toddlers develop and prepare them for school. Senate budget writers are suggesting deep cuts. The lawmakers want to cut the program from 30 million a year to 15 million. The plan could hurt thousands of families. In fact the Presidents for Parents for Teachers program says the program currently serves about 85,000 families a year. The cuts could leave 69-thousand families without funding for the program. We are told 1,300 trained educators could lose their jobs.
