Maplewood officer who had heart attack driving from fallen officer's funeral dies

(KMOV.com) – A Maplewood police officer who suffered a heart attack during another officer's funeral has died.

Officer George Ross, 62, died at St. Anthony's Hospital early Thursday morning.

He was returning from funeral services for St. Louis Police office David Haynes last week when he had a heart attack and crashed his patrol car on I-55. 

St. Louis County Police tell News 4 that Officer Ross lost control of his marked patrol car, went off the interstate and crashed through a fence then struck at least one parked car.
 

Officer Ross served on the Maplewood police force for 33 years. He was 63-years-old. He is survived by his wife and nine children.
