(KMOV) -- A man is in custody after police say he broke into and stole multiple guns from a Belleville store.

It happened at Curt Smith's Outdoors near the intersection of Church and “A” Streets around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The store manager tells News 4 that the thief broke in through a roof-top window, then made off with about nine hand guns.

Police responding to the burglary alarm, spotted the thief and gave chase, hitting a gas line along the way.

Officers apprehended the suspect just a block away and recovered multiple stolen weapons.

The manager says he won't know for sure how many weapons are missing until employees conduct a full inventory review.

Police won't yet say if anyone else may have been involved in the burglary.
