(KMOV) -- An accident early Sunday morning left one man dead and six others injured.

Students from Wisconsin were returning home on northbound I-55 from a spring break trip to Texas when they were involved in a single van accident around 7:30 a.m. in Jefferson County, just south of Imperial.

The driver of the vehicle steered to the right to avoid a car merging into his lane, and the vehicle veered off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail and a large concrete pillar.

EMS personnel pronounced 23-year-old Brad Nudelbacher of Appleton, Wis. dead on the scene.

Six other passengers were injured - three are listed in serious condition. The remaining three passengers are listed in moderate condition.
