Fundraiser benefits Maplewood man killed in carjacking

(KMOV) -- Friends of a man killed during a carjacking in Sauget, Illinois last week held a fundraiser for the victim, Michael Lampe, on Sunday at Michael's Bar and Grill in Maplewood. Lampe worked there for three years.

The benefit raised money for Lampe's funeral costs. A final tally of monies raised will not be available for a few days, as funds are still coming in.

Restaurant manager Michael Butler said his staff is still grieving the loss of a friend and coworker. He also said that he and his staff want the person responsible for this crime caught.

On Sunday, the Major Case Squad announced that they have issued an arrest warrant for 20-year-old Lason Elliot for first degree murder. He had been considered what police call a "person of interest," but is now a suspect in connection to the death of 23-year-old Lampe.
