(KMOV)-- Accused triple murderer Christopher Coleman appeared in court Friday.
His attorneys argued motion for a change of venue. They said their client could not get a fair trial in Monroe County because of all of the pre trial publicity. As proof, they presented the judge with hundreds of pages of documents saying they were transcripts of the coverage last year and there was even more this year.
The states' attorney argued that the law says that the citizens of Monroe County have the right to resolve any crime committed in Monroe County. Defense attorneys countered again, saying even if they were able to get an untainted jury for that trial, they would have to run the media gauntlet and go home to neighbors and possibly face the pressure of having to return a guilty verdict for that public pressure.
The judge said it will take him some time to go through all of the documents. He continued the case until May.
Coleman is accused of killing his wife and two sons last year in Columbia, Illinois.
