(KMOV) -- A school custodian who is also a swimming instructor has been charged for allegedly sexually abusing children.

Christopher Mayweather, 37, has been charged with five counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

Authorities said at the beginning of March a victim, in his teens, reported incidents of sexual abuse/assault to police committed by his family nanny/babysitter. The victim stated the sexual abuse started when he was six years old. The sexual assaults occurred at different locations in the unincorporated areas of Belleville (Winslow Road, Belleville, Glen Addie Blvd, Belleville and Warrensburg Drive, Belleville).

Police began the lengthy process of interviewing the victim, family members, friends, neighbors and associates. After numerous interviews more victims were identified and located, some from out of state. During the investigation it was discovered the suspect was currently a custodian at Jefferson School in Belleville and a swimming instructor at the Belleville YMCA. Some of the victims he had met while swimming at the YMCA fifteen years ago.

Mayweather is in custody at the St. Clair County Jail with a $500,000 bond.

Authorities said the charges reflect crimes against two children and sex crimes against an additional two other children are still being investigated.

Policeif there are any other victims out there or anyone has any information about this suspect and his illegal sex crimes against children, please contact Sheriff’s Investigator Matt Jany at 618-277-3504 x5712,” said Capt. Steve Johnson.
