(KMOV) – The St. Louis County Health Department announced that it will now only be reporting confirmed cases of E. coli, and has stressed that the source of the outbreak has not yet been identified.
That number stands at 20 in St. Louis County, with six more in the surrounding area for a total of 26.
On Monday, the health department suggested a strong link to Schnucks stores and salad bars. Today, that connection is not so clear. This puts the investigation back to square one, and leaves a lot of questions unanswered.
However, after dozens of interviews and sampling lettuce, strawberries and salad dressing, the E. coli source remains unclear.
The FDA will now play a part in the investigation as it begins to examine sources outside of Missouri.
