The Cardinals beat the Texas Rangers 6-2 Friday in Game 7 to win the World Series for the second time in six seasons and for the 11th time overall, second most to the Yankees.
Busch Stadium erupted as David Murphy flew out to left to end the game. Red, white and blue confetti filled the stadium as fireworks went off. Players tossed gloves and hugged near the pitcher's mound.
Throughout the game, thousands of fans who couldn't get into the ballpark crowded the streets around Busch Stadium, bringing traffic to a standstill.
There were no immediate reports of rioting or looting. There was a heavy police presence both inside the ballpark and out.
