EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- Police in the southwestern Illinois city of Edwardsville say a group of party-seeking teenagers broke in and ransacked a home before torturing two pet dogs, fatally injuring one of the animals.
Homeowner Jenny Clark tells The (Alton) Telegraph that she returned home with her teenage son Sunday after a weekend trip, discovered the damage and found one of the family's Chihuahuas near death. The second Chihuahua survived.
A family friend says the dogs had been shot with BB guns, cut and were fed prescription drugs rolled in cheese.
Police say they responded Saturday night to a neighbor's call that teenagers were at the house, apparently since Friday night.
Investigators say the teens were taken in for questioning, but there's no immediate word on any arrests or charges
