Cardinals pick up Wainwrights 2012, 2013 options

(BaseballStL) -- Probably the easiest decision that the St. Louis Cardinals have made during this postseason is picking up injured pitcher Adam Wainwright’s contract option for 2012 and 2013, according to stltoday.com.

The right-hander is expected to make $21 million over the next two years.

Wainwright has been off the active roster since he injured his elbow during Spring Training.

Five years ago, Wainwright struck out Detroit Tigers Brandon Inge to clinch the World Series for the Cardinals.

Wainwright is 66-35 with a 2.42 ERA in six seasons pitched for the Cardinals.
