ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – An 84-year-old man with dementia who walked away from a local health facility in Florissant on Tuesday morning was found dead Wednesday afternoon in a creek in north St. Louis County, officials say.

Police say they found Emmit Clifton in a creek near New Halls Ferry Road and Greenway Chase around 3:35 p.m. while searching in the area. They had been searching for the man since he was reported missing on Tuesday.

Clifton’s cause of death has not yet been determined. Detectives say they are awaiting the results of an autopsy before information on a cause of death will be released.

Clifton was a resident at the Rancho Manor Care and Rehab facility located at 615 Rancho Dr. in Florissant, MO. He was last seen inside the facility Tuesday morning around 7:30 A.M.
