ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- The City of St. Louis is cleaning up after a South City homeowner let mounds of trash pile up in his yard.

Police say the homeowner had tons of trash from his own house dumped all over his yard. The home is in the 6400 block of Scanlan in St. Louis. The man claims he is dumping the trash on his own property, so he can do what he wants with it.

Neighbors are not happy with the trash and police say it is a health hazard. Since the homeowner refuses to clean up the mess, St. Louis City hired their own crew to haul away more than 25 tons of trash.

According to officials, the man started dumping trash the weekend before Labor Day and has been doing so ever since.

The homeowner owes the city more than $1,000 for the cleanup.
