HOUSTON (AP) -- Mary Ann Rivera fled Houston with her three children after being charged four decades ago with killing her husband by dousing him with hot grease.
Now officials have brought the 76-year-old back from Georgia to face a murder charge in the October 1970 death of Cruz Rivera.
Mary Ann Rivera is to appear in court Friday. Friends say the 76-year-old woman is in poor health.
She has been a fugitive since she posted a $10,000 bond in 1970 and disappeared. Cold case investigators tracked her down this year to her apartment in the small town of Lake Park, Ga., near the Florida border.
Court records don't indicate an alleged motive for the slaying. The Harris County District Attorney's Office, which tracked down Rivera, declined to comment Thursday on a motive.
