GOODMAN, Mo. (AP) -- A 28-year-old Goodman man who shot a McDonald County deputy has died after turning the gun on himself during a vehicle chase.
The Joplin Globe reports Deputy Kenen Martinez lives in an apartment above one where Alvin Davis lived and heard a disturbance between Davis and his girlfriend Wednesday.
Sheriff Robert Evenson says Martinez was off duty and in street clothes when he went down to investigate, and that Davis knew he was a deputy.
He says Martinez was shot in the leg before returning fire. Davis got into a pickup truck and later shot himself as he was driving toward an intersection where the sheriff and deputies waited for him.
Martinez was treated at a Joplin hospital for his wound, which was not life-threatening.
