(KMOV) -- A Budweiser semi truck toppled over in St. Clair County, causing a traffic nightmare for hundreds of drivers heading into downtown St. Louis Wednesday morning.

The truck wrecked on westbound Interstate 55/70 just west of the merger with Interstate 64 around 5:40 a.m.

Only one westbound lane was getting by until another lane reopened at about 7:20 a.m. Traffic at one point was backed up for several miles.

It was unclear if the driver of the truck suffered injuries.

The cause of the wreck was not immediately known.
