(KMOV) –An assistant manager of a local coffee shop is accused of stealing a customer’s credit card and racking up thousands in charges.

Police say Terrance Reid, 26,  stole a woman’s credit card then charged more than $6,000 worth of unauthorized purchases at H&M, Target, Walgreen’s and Walmart.

According to the charging documents, a customer left her wallet at the Starbucks on Manchester near McKnight and when she returned to retrieve it, she later discovered the missing card and charges.

Reid reportedly confessed to stealing the credit card before he placed her missing wallet in the store’s safe.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Clinton with the Rock Hill Police said "he was just tempted with money issues at the time? And there really is no good defense for that."

Reid was charged with stealing a credit card and fraudulent use of a credit card. Rock Hill Police say surveillance video from the stores showed him making the unauthorized purchases.

"Unfortunately it can happen anywhere.  It happened to happen at Starbucks this time. The fact that the company did everything right once it was brought to their attention, allows me to continue going there."

A Starbucks spokesperson said a district manager apologized to the customer and Reid was immediately terminated as soon as the company learned of the charges.
