(KMOV) -- Police are trying to find out who broke into an historic Landmark in Alton that’s being restored to its former glory.

Someone recently forced their way inside the Lucy Haskell Playhouse.  Minor damage was done to the building and it appears nothing was stolen, but the crime is a motivator for building volunteers.

“It was pretty sad, but at the same time, made us that much more determined to see this thing through, spread the word, and do our part and save the history of Alton,” says Haskell Playhouse Association volunteer Ryan Hanlon.

The city of Alton owns the property, and the Haskell Playhouse Association cares for the building.  There is no word of any arrest in this burglary investigation.

Volunteers are trying to raise $50,000 in 50 days to restore the playhouse.  For details on Lucy Haskell Playhouse renovations, click here
