(KMOV.com) — A Metro East mother wants answers from a Granite City bus company after her daughter was beaten up a bus.
The attacker was arrested, but the 13-year-old victim has a broken nose and a black eye.
The driver of the bus was suspended for one shift while the company investigated whether the driver followed protocol when she did not stop the bus to break up the fight or help the victim.
Supervisor Pat Coleman of Illinois Central School Bus said the company investigated the incident by reviewing surveillance video and sides with the bus driver for not stopping the bus or the fight.
According to Coleman it was a quick fight. The driver attempted to call for help but hung up once the fight was over.
"If it was a quick fight, my daughter would not have had a broken nose and black eye,” said Heather Tenllado.
Tenllado took her daughter to the hospital the day of the of the attack and pressed charges against the girl.
“The other girl comes back to school tomorrow, she got five days of suspension from school. The only reason why she's in a lot of trouble is because I filed for charges," said Tenllado.
The school district said they are working closely with the bus company, but the bus company will take the lead on the investigation.
