(KMOV) – The city of Collinsville has proclaimed Monday to be Karrie Brown Day in honor of a very special resident of the city.

Karrie Brown is a 17-year-old from Collinsville who received 11,000 “likes” in less than a week on Facebook. That prompted her favorite clothing store, Wet Seal, to hire her as its first model with Down Syndrome.

Sue Brown took a photo of her daughter Karrie on her first day of school and put it on Facebook. Sue said they were showing off one of her new outfits from Wet Seal.

Sue set up a Facebook page with Karrie wearing different outfits from Wet Seal every day. Wet Seal told the Browns if Karrie could get 10,000 likes in a few days then they would have a surprise for Karrie.

Karrie achieved the goal and was flown to California to take place in a photo shoot for the clothing company.

Karrie has continued to achieve celebrity status by appearing on McDonalds signs and in “J-14” magazine alongside her favorite celebrities.

Brown’s Facebook “likes” have topped 28,000 less than six months.
