Maryland Heights residents may soon pay more for city sewer program

Posted: Updated:

(KMOV.com) – Maryland Heights residents may soon be paying more to support the city’s Sewer Lateral Program.

The program currently costs residents $28 a year but officials are proposing an increase to $50 because they said operation costs for the program are exceeding revenue.

"Basically it's an insurance policy, you're paying 50 dollars per year to ensure that if I need a repair to my sewer lateral, the city would come in and basically do it for free," said Director of Public Works Bryan Pearl.

Voters will need to approve Proposition S April 8 in order for it to go into effect. The city will be holding several meetings next week to discuss the issue.
