(KMOV) -- A St. Charles man was charged with possession of child pornography and failure to register as a sex offender in Australia and the United States.
According to police documents, Timothy R. Powers, 57, moved to Australia in 2003 and said he had been arrested and found guilty for possession of child pornography in Australia in at least two different occasions. Documentation was also provided that supported the claim that Powers had previously been found guilty in 2003 and 2011 of possession of child pornography in Australia.
Powers moved back to the United States in July of 2013 and again did not register as a sex offender with the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of St. Charles County.
St. Charles authorities were notified by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department that someone in a residence in St. Charles was downloading child pornography on Tuesday. Authorities were granted a search warrant and preceded to the home of Powers.
It was reported an employee of the St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department who made contact with an officer of the Australian Federal Police who confirmed and provided documentation presently had outstanding charges for failure to register as a sex offender with Australian authorities.
