(KMOV) – The Maryland Heights Expressway was closed for hours in both directions after a two-vehicle wreck early Wednesday morning.

The wreck involving a pickup truck and car happened on northbound Rte. 141 just south of Riverport around 3 a.m.

The  driver of one of the vehicles, Derek M. Cliffe, 26, of St. Peters, died as a result of his injuries.

Accident reconstruction crews were on the scene and the highway remained closed until opening back up around 11 a.m. 

The accident is still under investigation.
