SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon has released recommendations for retaining and strengthening military bases in Illinois.
Simon chairs the state's Interagency Military Base Support and Economic Development Committee. That group reviewed the findings from a defense community survey, along with the recommendations, at a meeting Wednesday in Springfield.
The suggestions include developing an economic impact study to measure the benefits military bases. It could help smooth the transfer of credits between school districts in Illinois and other states for the children of military personnel.
The survey recommendations also call for continuing development of ways to award credentials for training received in the military.
