ST. LOUIS -- Four St. Louis police horses are back in their home at Forest Park.
The horses were moved out of the 1,300-acre park four years ago because of lead paint concerns at their stable. They moved between a private farm in Chesterfield to stables at other parks.
On Wednesday, thanks to $1 million in donations to a nonprofit group, the horses moved back in to their stables at Forest Park.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the stables use to house 10 police horses but the number dwindled to four as the horses were moved around. The stable also is home to two park ranger horses.
The nonprofit group, Forest Park Forever, has committed to donating from $25,000 to $30,000 annually to help keep the horses in the park.
