(HockeyStL) -- San Jose Sharks Dan Boyle was taken off the ice by stretcher following a big hit along the boards by the Blues' Maxim Lapierre during the first period of a game Tuesday night at the Scottrade Center.

Following the hit the Sharks went after Lapierre resulting in additional penalties.

Lapierre picked up five minute majors for checking from behind and fighting. The penalties proved costly for the Blues as the Sharks took advantage of the power play to score two goals.
