(KMOV) – Tuesday could bring some major changes to the morning for hundreds of drivers in St. Charles County.
August Parkway, a popular connector between the town of Washington and St. Charles County, has been shut down for months..
But elected officials who’ve been arguing about the roadway for months might finally settle on a compromise on Tuesday.
The road, known as Augusta Bottom Road to some, is technically Warren County territory.
But officials there refuse to maintain or take any responsibility for it. St. Charles County residents have shown concern because hundreds of drivers use the road each day to get to Washington.
It wasn’t a problem until just a few months ago when the town of August, which maintained the road, closed the popular cutoff because the town lost its liability insurance..
That happened after a 16-year-old girl veered off the roadway in 2010 and died.
The St. Charles County Council on Tuesday will vote on a bill Tuesday in hopes of coming to a resolution. The proposed bill says St. Charles County will continue to maintain some roads that Warren County residents rely on every day.
And in return, Warren County will maintain and hopefully reopen Augusta Parkway.
