Off-duty officer ejected from vehicle during south St. Louis wreck

(KMOV.com) -- St. Louis police say an off-duty officer is recovering from a severe head injury after he was ejected from a vehicle in a rollover wreck in south St. Louis Sunday evening.

Authorities said the officer was riding in a Jeep with his girlfriend when they crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Jamieson and Fyler around 5:30 p.m..

Police Chief Sam Dotson say the 25-year-old officer suffered severe head trauma after being ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Barnes-Jewish Hospital, where he remained in critical condition Monday afternoon. 

Authorities say a father and small child were inside the second vehicle involved in the crash. No other injuries were reported.

Police continue investigating what led to the wreck.
