(KMOV.com) -- More than two million people in Illinois experienced problems with their food stamp cards and were unable to use the card at all Saturday.
Officials in Illinois said the third party contractor, Xerox, who provides services for the Link Food Stamp Cards is experiencing a power outage.
Xerox said they were performing a routine test of the back-up systems when the entire EBT system experienced a temporary shutdown.
Officials said the system is up and running as of Saturday afternoon, but people in the 17 states affected by the shutdown still encountered issues even after the problem was fixed.
Xerox said those using the Link cards can work with local retailers to activate an emergency voucher system.
News 4 is checking in with Missouri officials to see if their system is being impacted too.
