Amazingly, Carlos Beltran continues historic postseason career

(BaseballStL) -- There are October superheroes. And then there is Carlos Beltran.

The man who has hit more home runs in the postseason than Babe Ruth did it again in Game 1 of the NLCS against the Dodgers. Beltran came through with all three of the team's RBIs - including the walk-off winner in the 13th - and even saved the game by throwing out Mark Ellis at the plate in the 10th inning.

"It's always great to be able to come through as a ballplayer," Beltran said. "When you come through and help the team win that's what it's all about. Understand that at the end of the day this is not about me. This is about the team because in order for a team to win a lot of things have to happen. We have to hit, we have to pitch and we have to come through defensively. (I'm thankful) I've been able to help do that."

Seriously, what else is there to even say about this guy?

“Carlos is amazing," Daniel Descalso said. "Throughout the season this guy does some amazing things. In October he seems to find another gear. We like our chances when it’s first and second and we have Carlos followed by Matt. Those guys take great at-bats for us and Carlos was able to come through.”

“As good of a game as you could possibly play -- throw a guy out at the plate that ends up being the game saver and then all of the runs. You can’t play a much better game that. He was outstanding,” Matt Carpenter said.

"He's been a pro all season long. Just to watch him do his thing whether it's offensively (with all three RBIs) or the big throw he made (in the 10th), the guy's a player," Mike Matheny said.

The Cardinals lead the series against the Dodgers 1-0 and will face Clayton Kershaw in Saturday afternoon's Game 2.
